Kathleen Fergus

Chief Genetic Consultant
Ms. Fergus is a genetic counselor with over 20 years of clinical experience in medical genetics and public health. She received her master’s degree in genetic counseling from the University of California at Irvine in 1992 and her B.S. in Cell and Molecular Biology from San Francisco State University in 1989. She received her certification from the American Board of Genetic Counseling in 1992 and is licensure by the State of California. Ms. Fergus has worked for the Kaiser Permanente, the California Dept. of Public Health and Roche. In addition, she was a project manager of a multi-state Health Resources and Services Administration grant (HRSA) looking at the ethical legal and social issues (ELSI) regarding the expansion of newborn screening. She currently serves as a board member of the California Biobank Community Panel and the California Newborn Screening Stakeholders committee. Her primary interests are genetic screening and consumer education regarding genetic testing.
